Video of the Week: “Easy Lover” Phil Collins/Philip Bailey Cover by The Hindley Street Country Club – 09/07/20

by | Sep 8, 2020 | Video Of The Week

Every once in a while we come across a cover that’s so good, we can’t believe we’ve never heard of this band before. This is one such time.

One of the advantages of having the Cover Band Central Facebook Group is that we get to discover “new” talent that gets posted by one of the band members. In this case, however, the clip was posted by somebody who simply enjoyed the performance. We have a feeling that you will, too.

Based out of South Australia, The Hindley Street Country Club is the brainchild of keyboardist Darren Mullan and bassist Constantine Delo who use a host of different players and singers for their projects.

Their YouTube channel is a veritable jukebox of popular covers performed with impeccable precision. They also put in the effort to produce high quality videos—all performed live in-studio—which adds to the appreciation value.

From classic R&B tracks such as Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” and Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine,” to pop hits such as Toto’s “Africa,” Tom Petty’s “Free Falling,” and Heart’s “Alone,” there is something for everyone to get lost in hours of video bliss.

The outfit’s Facebook Page boasts an impressive 30,000+ followers, and their YouTube videos have a combined total of over 20 million views. According to their home page video, Mullan and Delo have received a lot of support from United States viewers, and are in the works to bring the band on the road to America.

Check out the video clip below of their cover of the Phil Collins/Philip Bailey hit “Easy Lover” which reached all the way to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1985. Performing this song with the high tenor vocals and lush instrumentation is no easy task, but this group knocks it out of the park.
