“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” Darlene Love Cover by Joyrider—Video of the Week 12/21/20

by | Dec 21, 2020 | Video Of The Week

Musicians have come up with lots of creative ways to make videos in 2020. The pandemic that has affected the entire world has forced people to stay home, but musicians have still been doing what they do, albeit in new and interesting ways.

The split-screen, properly socially distanced videos have become ubiquitous this past year. Most have employed a basic look, but it’s the artists who have thought outside the box that have stood out.

One such band utilized an advent calendar look for their Christmas video, and for their unique idea and excellent execution, we have chosen England’s Joyrider as our Video of the Week!

Billing themselves as a “Function Band,” Joyrider is a 5-piece band who play weddings and corporate events throughout the UK. Featuring both male and female lead vocals, their repertoire is extensive enough to please any audience.

Although the lockdown has put shows on hold for the band as it has for just about every other musician, Joyrider has still been offering material via their YouTube channel. With a dozen or so new clips, the band has stayed active in the only way musicians can these days. (We highly recommend that you check out the band’s excellent version of Foo Fighter’s “Times Like These.”)

Not only is the full band staying busy, but singer Jennifer Glatzhofer has recorded a bunch of new videos on her own—including a few choice Christmas tunes which can be found on her Facebook page.

But for our selection, we chose the full band’s clip of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” Originally recorded in 1963 by Darlene Love, “Christmas” has been covered by dozens of artists—perhaps most famously by U2 in 1987 during a sound check on the band’s Joshua Tree tour, which was then released on the first A Very Special Christmas compilation.

Watch and enjoy Joyrider’s version below, and be sure to share to help support musicians!
