Influenced by her father’s love of rock music, Formica started on her musical journey at the tender age of 7 by picking up a guitar, and then quickly moving on to drums and other instruments. By 11, she started dabbling into songwriting, and thus her destiny was already in the cards.
By 16, Moriah went big time by auditioning, and making the cut, on the hit NBC singing show The Voice, eventually ending up on Team Miley during its 13th season. Although she didn’t win, the massive exposure put this young talent in the national spotlight.
Now nearly 20 years old, Miss Formica has forged a promising future for herself by gaining support from rock heavyweights such as Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale who states that Moriah is “The future of rock,” Maroon 5’s Adam Levine who calls her “The next great female rock singer,” and Miley Cyrus, who simply considers her a “Rock Goddess.”
Early in 2020, Formica announced that she would be hitting the road in the spring with Stryper’s Michael Sweet and TNT’s Tony Harnell for a short tour, but alas as every artist’s shows got cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, those dates had to be postponed.
However, as many ambitious musicians have done, Formica turned to the internet to record videos of some of her favorite tracks, which is how she got our attention. The video that we selected has been making the rounds lately, and also features drummer Brooke C (who we featured in a previous Video of the Week).
Check out the stellar rendition of Heart’s “Barracuda” below, and be sure to browse through the rest of her clips on her YouTube channel.
